Paterson signs law to 'enhance' health-insurance protections

Gov. David Paterson on Thursday signed a bill meant to "enhance" consumer protections in case a health insurer or health-maintenance organization discontinues a class of policies or contracts.

The legislation, known as "Ian's Law" amends the New York State Insurance Law to require insurers to certify several pieces of information to Superintendant of Insurance James Wrynn.

Cayuga County and Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced a $13.3 million contract for a public-safety communications system.


St. Joseph's names new president and CEO

St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center today announced the appointment of Kathryn Howe Ruscitto as the hospital's 13th president and CEO.

She will replace Theodore Pasinski on Jan. 1.


Eric Mower lays off seven in Syracuse

Eric Mower and Associates (EMA), the largest advertising agency in Central New York, has confirmed the layoff of seven employees from its Syracuse office earlier this month.


Earnings dip at Oneida Financial

Second-quarter earnings were down at Oneida Financial Corp. due to a drop in value of trading securities and increased provisions for loan losses.

The banking company reported net income of $814,000, or 10 cents per share, compared to $1.1 million, or 14 cents per share, a year ago. Oneida announced its results Friday.
