Paychex outlines top regulatory issues small businesses face in 2012

Increased government scrutiny of the misclassification of workers, the outcome of the payroll-tax extension debate, and the Supreme Court’s decision on the federal health-care reform law are among the top 12 potential regulatory issues small businesses may face in 2012.

That’s according to Paychex, Inc. (NASDAQ: PAYX), a Rochester–area based provider of payroll, human-resources, and employee-benefits outsourcing services to small- and medium-sized businesses.


State social worker in Tompkins County admits to working out on state time

ITHACA - Working out a lot didn’t work out for one state social worker in Tompkins County whose habit of exercising on state time landed him in legal trouble.

Jeffrey Bieder, a former licensed master social worker with the State Office for People with Development Disabilities, pleaded guilty on Dec. 21 to first-degree falsifying business records before Tompkins County Court Judge John C. Rowley.
