Rome Memorial Hospital awarded grant to upgrade wireless network

 

The Rome Community Foundation has awarded Rome Memorial Hospital a grant of $40,000 for improvements to its wireless network for Internet access.
The first phase of the wireless-infrastructure upgrade is underway, Bruce Peterson, chief information officer at Rome Memorial, said in a news release.

Study says Oneida, Broome physician practices are major economic drivers

 

The nearly 200 physician practices in Oneida County drove more than $300 million into the county's economy in 2008 through the employment of more than 2,200 physicians and staff members.

At the same time, the estimated 130 practices in Broome County contributed more than $400 million in 2008 while employing 2,000 people.


Study says Onondaga County physician practices are major economic drivers

 

The more than 400 physician practices in Onondaga County drove $1 billion into the county's economy in 2008 through the employment of nearly 6,000 physicians and staff members.

That's according to a new report on private-practice physicians in New York. The Onondaga County Medical Society released details about the study on Monday.


Report says cost of treating diabetes Upstate tops $2 billion

 

Annual treatment for people diagnosed with diabetes in upstate New York costs about $2.5 billion, according to a report from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.

About 377,000 Upstate adults, or about one in 10, have been diagnosed with diabetes, a figure that's up by 81,000 compared to five years ago, the report says.


CDPHP adds in-house behavioral-health unit

Health insurer Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan (CDPHP) has introduced an in-house behavioral-health unit.

The unit will focus on psychiatric care, treatment of mental-health issues, and treatment of chemical dependency, including alcohol and substance abuse.
