Paterson signs law to 'enhance' health-insurance protections

Gov. David Paterson on Thursday signed a bill meant to "enhance" consumer protections in case a health insurer or health-maintenance organization discontinues a class of policies or contracts.

The legislation, known as "Ian's Law" amends the New York State Insurance Law to require insurers to certify several pieces of information to Superintendant of Insurance James Wrynn.


Wilber profit falls in 2nd quarter

NBT reports earnings increase

Second-quarter earnings rose at NBT Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBTB), the holding company of NBT Bank.
The banking company reported net income of $14.4 million, or 42 cents per share, up 24.8 percent from $11.6 million, or 34 cents per share, a year ago. NBT shares were trading up more than 2.6 percent this morning at $22.82.
